From our perspective the following targets are involved in the collection of requirements:

• Completeness: neither functional nor non-functional requirements may get lost
• Assignability: each requirement is clearly identifiable
• Consistency: each requirement is understandable, correct and precisely formulated
• Measurability: the requirements must be described sufficiently for prioritisation

For the quality assessment of documented requirements the quattron group has compiled extensive evaluation criteria in the form of a check list. Furthermore, we are working with a collaboration and documentation management tool which makes requirements documentation more straight-forward.

If it concerns requirements which affect a running project or an application which is in operation, these are assigned to change request management. This ensures that decisions are made about the requirements on already budgeted and determined projects or applications systematically and taking into consideration all the associated effects.

The experience of the quattron group has shown that consumers often need to be trained in the use of formal methods for requirement description. The use of formal methods in the acceptance of requirements initially means increased workload – the associated standardisation, liability and capacity to understand requirements, however, leads to increased reduction of workload in the overall process and forms a perfect basis for efficient requirements management.

Depending on the project situation, requirements management can be carried out if desired with tool support on the basis of Microsoft technology. Here, the methodical approach to requirements management is supported on the basis of formulas with the corresponding workflows. This ensures high quality requirements management. Statistics and reports on the status of requirements can quickly be made available in different layouts.
